Aeromechanical engineer · Professional pilot
Ben Myburgh
I have spent most of my life moving between airplanes, engineering projects and ideas worth pursuing—from flight schools and aircraft programs to simulators, HMARD and a motorcycle trip around the world.
A few chapters
Aircraft. Simulation. Flight test.
Turning engineering ideas into models, prototypes and flight-test results.
Mixed reality aviation
HMARD
My flight-tested helmet-mounted AR system for placing persistent virtual aircraft, targets and boundaries into the real outside world.
Aircraft development
Engineering + Flight Test
Aircraft programs where I have worked across mechanical design, simulation, prototypes, test planning and pilot evaluation.
X-Plane Pro
I support professional X-Plane simulator teams working through aircraft-model, hardware and integration problems.
Product development
Pretoria Limited
Independent engineering work that has taken ideas through CAD, prototypes, manufacturing and testing.
A life beyond the résumé
25,000 miles changed the view.
After losing my father and selling the flight school I had built, I left Tennessee on a motorcycle and headed east. The road crossed oceans, borders, deserts, mountain passes and eventually brought me home with a very different idea of what matters.
That journey became The $500 Bet and How I Met My Father.
